Typhoon DN302 at Hutton Cranswick airfield.

On 20th December 1942 this aircraft was on approach to land at Hutton Cranswick on it's delivery flight to the squadron but the pilot felt that the aircraft was going to overshoot so ground-looped the aircraft and the undercarriage collapsed at 12.15hrs. The pilot was a 195 Squadron pilot and had travelled by rail to collect the aircraft the prvious day

Typhoon DN302 was built to contact ACFT/943 by the Gloster Aircraft Co.Ltd. at Hucclecote and was awaiting collection in November 1942. It was in the process of being delivered as new to 195 Squadron at Hutton Cranswick when this mishap occurred and after assessment Cat.E2/FA damage was recorded.

Pilot - Sgt David John Webster RAFVR (1438480).


David Webster received a commission on 1st January 1943 and rose to F/O six months later. On 16th August 1943 he was killed flying 195 Squadron Typhoon JP549 over Holland.
