On 21st December 1942 this A.F.E.E. aircraft was being taxied around Sherburn in Elmet airfield when it sank into mud and tipped up onto it's nose.

Master DL176 was built to contract B.44440/39 by Philips and Powys Ltd. at Woodley and was first test flown on 29th March 1942. On 1st April 1942 it was received by the C.R.D. at Philips and Powys Ltd. at Woodley where it was modified to be the Prototype Master GT.II. It was first test flown after modification on 11th April 1942 and the following day was taken on charge by C.R.D. at A.F.E.E. at Ringway. On 17th June 1942 it moved with this unit to Sherburn in Elmet. As a result of the damage there on 21st December 1942 Cat.A/FA damage was the assessment and it was repaired on site then returned to the unit. On 10th April 1943 it was flown to 39 MU at Colerne then four days later taken on charge by Station Flight at Netheravon. On 31st January 1944 it was returned to 39 MU at Colerne for long term storage. It was eventually struck off charge on 25th March 1948.
