On 24th October 1942 the pilot force landed this aircraft while it was being flown on a test flight, it was damaged in the landing near Drax at 12.30hrs.
DG209 was one of the prototype Horsa gliders.

Horsa DG609 was built to contract SB.13325 by Airspeed Ltd. at Christchurch and was first test flown on 12th April 1942 (behind a Whitley). It was one of seven Horsa prototypes. On an unknown date it wa transferred to the A.F.E.E. at Sherburn in Elmet. As a result of this mishap near Drax on 24th October 1942 the damage was initially assessed as being Cat.B/FA but there does not appear to have been a repair carried out.
