Wellington DF546 at Finningley airfield (?).

On 26th November 1942 the starboard undercarriage leg of this 25 O.T.U. aircraft collapsed on landing. The unit records do not state where the incident happened though it was probably at their home airfield of Finningley. Minor damage to the aircraft resulted.

Wellington DF546 was built to contract B.92439/40 by Vickers Armstrong's at Squires Gate and was awaiting collection in August 1942. It was received by 46 M.U. on 27th August 1942 and was taken on charge by 25 O.T.U. at Finningley on 9th September 1942. As a result of the damage sustained on 26th November 1942 Cat.A(c)/FA was the damage assessment and it was repaired on site by a team from Vickers at Weybridge. It was returned to 25 O.T.U. on 19th December 1942 but was transferred to 30 O.T.U. on 13th January 1943. On 22nd May 1943 it sustained minor Cat.Ac/FA damage in a flying accident which was repaired on site. On 6th November 1943 it left 30 OTU owing to a repair in works being made following damage discovered during an inspection. Once servicable again it was issued to 16 O.T.U. at Upper Heyford on 6th June 1944. On 14th February 1945 it wasdeemed Cat.B damaged during another inspection and was sent to Brooklands for repair. This took some months and in November 1945 it went to 27 M.U. and into store pending disposal. It was finally struck off charge on 4th June 1947.
