Spitfire BL920 at Croft airfield.

Prior to this incident occurring this 164 Squadron aircraft landed at Croft airfield on 2nd October 1942 but the reason for this is not known. On this date 164 Squadron moved from Peterhead to Tangmere and the flight had lasted 75 minutes. It seems highly likely that the landing at Croft was made during the transit flight toward Tangmere. At 15.40hrs the aircraft was being marshalled around Croft airfield when the port wheel ran into a ditch which caused the aircraft to tip on to its nose. The aircraft was repaired within a few days and made the flight to rejoin 164 Squadron on 6th October 1942.
