Spitfire BL642 at Hutton Cranswick airfield.
At 14.10hrs on 26th May 1942 this 308 Squadron aircraft was being taxied around Hutton Cranswick airfield prior to a training exercise when it ran across some long grass and one of the wheels dropped into a concealed hole. Unfortunately this saw the undercarriage collapse. Prior to the aircraft being moved both the pilot and section leader were ordered not to taxi into the ground by the station commander.

Julian Kawczynski was killed on 6th July 1942 when 308 Squadron Spitfire BL624 collided with Spitfire HL482 and crashed near Redhill.
