Spitfire BL573 at Hutton Cranswick airfield.
At 10.15hrs on 17th April 1942 while this 19 Squadron aircraft was taxying out of a dispersal bay at Hutton Cranswick airfield the pilot managed to swing the aircraft into something that saw the tail strike something and received damage to the rudder. The pilot is noted on the AM Form 1180 to have had previous accidents but they have not yet been researched.
Pilot - Sgt Fred George Turner RCAF (R/64429).
This pilot was also involved with three flying accidents later in 1942. On 5th August 1942 he crashed 403 Squadron Spitfire AR438 at Catterick airfield. On 19th December 1942 he crashed 91 Squadron Spitfire AB276 at Lympne and on 26th December 1942 he crashed 91 Squadron Spitfire W3606 also at Lympne.
