Anson AW928 at Finningley airfield.

On 13th August 1942 this 25 O.T.U. aircraft overshot a night landing at Finningley, a fuselage strut and the skin of the mainplane sustained some damage.

Crew - Names unknown.


Anson AW928 was built to contract B.137211/40/C.20(a) by A.V.Roe and Co. Ltd, at Yeadon and was awaiting collection in January 1942. The aircraft was initially placed into MU store before being taken on charge by 25 O.T.U. at Finningley on an unknown date. The damage sustained on 13th August 1942 saw Cat.A(c)/FA damage being the assessment which required only a repair on site. The aircraft later appears on charge with 81 O.T.U. at Tilstock, 27 O.T.U. at Lichfield and then 24 O.T.U. at Honeybourne before finally being transferred to 1 F.P.P. at White Waltham. On 1st January 1945 it was destroyed in an air raid during "Operation Bodenplatte"; the Luftwaffe's attempt to cripple the Allied Air Forces in Europe. The location of where it was destroyed is not yet known. Cat.E2 damage was recorded on the paperwork.
