Oxford AP457 at Clifton airfield.

On 3rd May 1942 an Oxford belonging to 15 (P)AFU crashed at Clifton airfield but details regarding the mishap are vague, why it was at Clifton is not yet known. Damage was only slight and there were no casualties reported but nothing else is currently known about this incident.

Oxford AP457 was built to contract B67831/40 by Percival Aircraft Ltd at Luton and was delivered to RAFC Cranwell on 12th October 1941. It was transferred to 15 (P)AFU at Leconfield on 2nd April 1942 and suffered this minor mishap on 3rd May 1942. It was repaired on site and returned to 15 (P)AFU only to suffer Cat.E2/FA damage on 21st July 1942 when the aircraft overshot a night landing at Kirmington when the pilot lost control of the aircraft.
