Spitfire AA739 at Scorton airfield.
At 11.45hrs on 8th May 1942 this 167 Squadron aircraft landed at Scorton airfield during a training exercise. On landing the aircraft one of the main tyres burst, this caused the aircraft to swing off the runway and when the hub with the burst tyre ran over a rut it sunk into the ground. This caused the tail to rise and the propeller strike the ground. Minor damage resulted to the aircraft.
