Unidentified Blenheim at Catfoss airfield.
On 8th April 1942 this aircraft was being flown on a training flight over East Yorkshire when the aircraft suffered engine failure. The pilot made a forced landing at Catfoss airfield but the aircraft sustained slight damage.
Pilot - S/Ldr Roy Gibert Dutton DFC & Bar RAF (39072).
Roy Dutton's life is well documented in books and on the internet. He flew with 145 Squadron before and during the Battle of Britain and received the DFC and Bar to the DFC for service in 1940. He was undertaking night-fighter training at 54 OTU at Church Fenton at the time of this incident in April 1942 and was posted to 141 Squadron later in the month. In 1945 he commanded 512 Squadron and was awarded the DSO for leading a tug / glider flight over enemy lines in March 1945. Post War he was appinted to ADC to the Queen and granted a CBE. He died in 1988.
