Unidentified Blenheim at Church Fenton airfield.
On 5th February 1942 this unidentified aircraft landed at Church Fenton airfield with undercarriage up after it had failed to
lock down properly, the aircraft was reported as considerably damaged but the pilot was not injured.
Pilot - P/O Oatley.
It is likely that the pilot was one P/O Gerald Richard Oatley RAFVR (108988), of Hindhead, Surrey. He had received his commission on 1st November 1941 to P/O on
probation (emergency). This airman was killed on 3rd March 1942 and was cremated at Woking. He was twenty nine years old. At the time of his death he was serving with 29 Squadron who flew night-fighters, this was a unit to whom 54 OTU supplied trained aircrew.
