Unidentified Wellington at Topcliffe airfield.

On 26th November 1942 in attempting to avoid a civilian worker on the runway at Topcliffe airfield this 424 Squadron Wellington deliberately turned off the runway and struck a fence. The aircraft sustained slight damage.

Pilot - Acting S/Ldr William Ezekiel Allison RAFVR (115784), of Greatham, Hartlepool, Durham.


William Allision received a commission to the rank of P/O on probation (emergency) on 30th January 1942. He was promoted to F/O on probation (war subs) on 1st October 1942 and later to F/Lt (war subs) on 20th January 1943. He was awarded the DFC for service with 424 Squadron, Gazetted on 20th April 1943. He was killed on 28th November 1943 while instructing with 16 OTU when Wellington X3923 collided with Wellington HE904 over Oxfordshire. He was twenty three years old and was buried at Greatham Church Cemetery, Hartlepool.
