Unidentified Lancaster, damaged by flak and returned to Breighton airfield.

On 22nd November 1942 the narative part of 460 Squadron's Operation Record Book mentions in passing that one of the squadron's Lancasters received slight damage to the fuselage as a result of being hit by flak on Ops to Stuttgart. The ORB stating each specific aircraft and crews makes no mention of any damage being sustained to any of the six aircraft that made it to the target area and as a result no precise information or research into the crew has been made. The six aircraft that bombed the target were Lancasters W4308, W4325, W4785, W4320, W4330 and W4329. The AM Form 78's for all but W4785 do not list any damage recorded as Cat.Ac or greater on this date which W4785's AM Form 78 card is missing. The damage assessment was probably Cat.A/FB so probably would not be recorded on the AM Form 78 in any case.

Crew - Names unknown.

The batch of Lancasters listed above were built by A.V. Roe Ltd., to contract B.69274/40 at Chadderton and were awaiting collection at Woodford after assembly around a month before this incident occurred on Ops.
