Unidentified Halifax at Dalton airfield.

On 13th February 1942 this unidentified Halifax was being used as part of the pilot's conversion training when the port fin sustained damage. The identity of the Halifax is not listed in the 102 Conversion Flight ORB but it was probably one of four. L9565 was the first to arrive when the unit formed in January 1942, followed soon after by L9532 soon after with R9378 and R9388 arriving by the end of January 1942. One of these aircraft (L9565) was damaged on hitting snow on 10th February 1942 but the parent unit, 102 Squadron lent the Conversion Flight another aircraft on 12th February 1942 though the ORB does not identify it (but does state that on 18th February 1942 that a dual control set was fitted to V9987 and this could be the loaned aircraft). The damage on 13th February 1942 must have been to one of these four aircraft aircraft (L9532, R9378, R9388 or V9987). The AM Form 78's for each of these aircraft show no damage assessment that could relate to this date. The damage must have been limited to Cat.A/FA which would not show on the AM Form 78. The is no AM Form 1180 that could relate to this incident.
