Whitley Z9227 damaged by flak, landed at Dishforth airfield.
On the night of 31st October / 1st November 1941 the crew of this 10 Squadron aircraft were tasked with bombing Hemburg. They took off from Leeming airfield at 16.50hrs and released their bombload at 21.08hrs from 15,000 feet and while over the target area the starboard engine was slightly damaged by flak. The crew managed to fly the aircraft back to Yorkshire but as they made an apparoach to land at Dishforth airfield the port engine caught fire. A safe landing was made at Dishforth at 01.59hrs but the engine was badly damaged by fire.
