Whitley Z6729 damaged by flak, returned to Linton on Ouse airfield.
On the night of 5th / 6th July 1941 the crew on this 58 Squadron aircraft were undertaking an operational flight to Munster, they took off from Linton on Ouse at 23.00hrs.
Releasing their load over the target area the aircraft was hit by flak on the return flight over Amsterdam. The crew were able to make a safe return to land at Linton on Ouse at
04.50hrs.

Just two days later this crew were flying 58 Squadron Whitley Z6644 on Ops to Osnabruck, the aircraft was shot down over Germany by a night-fighter and they are
buried in Reichswald Forst War Cemetery.
Whitley Z6729 was built to contract 106962/40 by Armstrong Whitworth Ltd. at Baginton and was awaiting collection on 29th April 1941. It was taken on charge by 58 Squadron at Linton on Ouse soon after completion and as a result of this battle damage on 6th July 1941 minor Cat.A/FB damage would have been the assessment. A repair on site at Linton on Ouse followed and it continued to be used by 58 Squadron until 17th August 1941 when it crashed in Hollabd on Ops. Cat.W(m) damage was recorded. The crew of five flying it on this occasion were made PoWs.
