Hampden X3116 was built to contract B.994449/39 by English Electric Co.Ltd. at Samlesbury and was awaiting collection in November 1940. The aircraft was received by 8 MU on 7th November 1940 and was taken on charge almost immediately by 83 Squadron at Scampton on 22nd November 1940. On 5th December 1940 it overshot on landing at Scampton on return from an operational flight and ran into an airfield light. Cat.M/FB damage was the damage assessment and it was probably repaired on site at Scampton. On 16th July 1941 it passed to 20 MU and was then transferred to 25 O.T.U. at Finningley on 30th July 1941. As a result of the minor damage sustained on 7th November 1941 Cat.A/FA damage resulted and it was repaired on site at Finningley. Once repaired the aircraft was immediately transferred to 14 O.T.U. at Cottesmore on 7th December 1941. On 26th February 1942 it sustained Cat.B/FA damage following a belly landing at Scampton following an engine failure on a training flight. The aircraft was taken away by road and a repair was carried out, during this period it was converted to a T.B. variant. The aircraft next appears being taken on charge by 455 Squadron at Leuchars on 2nd February 1943. It's AM Form 78 stated that it was transferred to 415 Squadron on 12th November 1943 but was also received by 44 MU on the same date. It remained there until being struck off charge on 21st June 1944.
