Lysander V9424 collided in air, probably landed at Clifton airfield.

On 16th July 1941 two 613 Squadron Lysanders were being flown from York (Clifton) to Doncaster airfield and were flying in formation. During the flight the aircraft, Lysander V9428 and V9424, collided and this caused the controls of Lysander V9428 to lock. The pilot made a crash landing around five miles north of Selby. Lysander V9424 was probably flown back to Clifton and landed safely.

Pilot - P/O Ardley.

Air Gunner - Name unknown.

Lysander V9424 was built to contract B.54504/39 by Westland Aircraft Ltd. at Yeovil and was awaiting collection in June 1941. According to it's published records it was never on charge with 613 Squadron. This could suggest it was a delivery flight to 613 Squadron at the time of this mishap in July 1941 with a return to Clifton being made for repair. The aircraft next appears on charge with 6 A.A.C.U. based at Ringway but was detached to Kingstown, Carlisle. On 15th December 1941 it was destroyed when it crashed near Houghton, Carlisle. Cat.E/FA damage was recorded and it was written off.
