Tiger Moth T6596 at Yeadon airfield.
On 25th November 1941 this 20 E.F.T.S. aircraft was in the process of landing at Yeadon airfield when it collided with Tiger Moth T5809 on the ground,
T5809 had already landed there earlier. T6596 sustained enough damage to not warrant a repair.
Pilot - LAC Philip Eaude RAFVR (977542). Sustained concussion.
Searching the registers he was probably born in Ormskirk, Lancashire in February 1915 then possibly married on
the Indian Subcontinent in 1948 and died in Yeovil, Somerset in 1997.
Philip Eaude received a commission on 20th November 1942 to the rank of P/O on probation (emergency) (134698) and
survived the War. Post-war he transferred to the Aircraft Control Branch with the rank of F/Lt (permanent) in 1951.
He remained in the RAF until retiring as W/C A.C.I.S. on 14th February 1971 having devoted much of his life to the
service of his country and rose to the senior ranks from the very bottom of the RAF.
Tiger Moth L6596 was built to contract 20916/39 by the Morris Motor Car Co.Ltd. at Cowley and was awaiting collection in October 1940. After a
period of MU storage it was taken on charge by the newly formed 20 EFTS at Yeadon around the beginning of March 1941. As a result of this mishap on
25th November 1941 Cat.E2/FA damage was the assessment and it was written off.
