Whitley T4214 at Topcliffe airfield.

At dusk on 3rd March 1941 this 102 Squadron aircraft overshot on landing at Topcliffe and ended up in the boundary hedge.

Whitley T4214 was built to contract 38599/39 by Armstrong Whitworth Ltd. at Baginton and was awaiting collection on 12th September 1940. It was taken on charge by 102 Squadron at Linton on Ouse the following month. On 15th November 1940 it moved with the unit to Topcliffe and on 3rd March 1941 sustained Cat.A damage as a result of the mishap recorded above. It was repaired on site and returned to the unit. By the end of July 1941 most 'T' serial Whitley's had been withdrawn from front line operation squadrons. On 25th November 1941 it was on charge with 1502 B.A.T. Flight at Driffield and later in 1942 it was on the books of 10 OTU at Abingdon, it finally served with 19 OTU at Kinloss and 19 OTU had placed all their Whitley's in MU store for disposal by September 1944. The aircraft was struck off charge on 22nd April 1945.
