Whitley T4200 at Topcliffe airfield.
During the morning of 4th April 1941 this 77 Squadron aircraft was flying a transit flight between Tangmere airfield to Topcliffe airfield. The aircraft had landed at Tangmere earlier that morning on return from Ops to bomb the Scharnhorst and Gneisenau battle ships that were at Brest. At 11.20hrs the aircraft made a heavy landing at Topcliffe in poor visibility on a rutted patch of the airfield, this caused the tail to bounce and eventually the tail wheel assembly collapsed.
