Whitley T4139 at Thornaby airfield.
On 16th February 1941 this 612 Squadron aircraft was being flown from Yeadon airfield towards Dyce in Scotland after modifications had been made to the aircraft earlier in the week at Yeadon. The crew of this aircraft managed to safely land at Thornaby without incident, probably for an overnight stay and to refuel. While taxying on the airfield perimeter in a strong wind a gust of wind blew the aircraft into a barbed wire fence and it sustained damage. Whitley T4275 was flying a similar flight but from Dyce towards Yeadon the next day but failed to land at Thornaby. It force landed at Thrintoft and sustained damage.
