Tiger Moth R5253 at Forest Farm airfield.

The 54 Operational Training Unit ORB briefly states that on 4th April 1941 Tiger Moth R5253 was involved in a collision with an unidentified Spitfire at 23.15hrs at Forest Farm airfield. Unfortunately nothing more is known about the incident. The Spitfire may have been a 41 Squadron one purely because they were the closest Spitfire unit at nearby Catterick. The Tiger Moth pilot was later posted to 406 Squadron and was killed when Beaufighter X8222 crashed at Catterick Bridge on 29th August 1942.

Pilot - P/O John Robert Browning Firth RAFVR (62009).
