Tiger Moth R5082 at Forest Farm airfield.
The 54 Operational Training Unit ORB briefly states that on 6th April 1941 this aircraft was being looped when the engine stopped at the top of the loop. The engine would not restart so a forced landing was made at 21.15hrs in the area of Forest Farm airfield.
Exactly why 54 O.T.U. used Forest Farm airfield and Tiger Moths is unclear when they were based at Church Fenton and trained night-fighter pilots to fly twin engined aeroplanes. Purely my guess is that before pilots were put into the twin engined aeroplanes at night they were given some night flying training in the less-powerful and easier to handle Tiger Moths, and away from where their main training took place.
