Spitfire P8445 at Catterick airfield.
On 22nd November 1941 this 122 Squadron aircraft was ferried between Scorton airfield and Catterick airfield. The aircraft made a heavy landing on already rain softened ground and the port wheel sunk, the undercarriage leg then subsequently collapsed.
Pilot - Sgt Joseph Louis Arthur Hansez RAFVR (1299901).
Joseph Hansez was a Belgian pilot. He was killed on 1st June 1942 when 350 Squadron Spitfire W3626 crashed into the English Channel, he is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.
