Whitley P4938 at Driffield airfield.

On the night of 7th / 8th April 1941 this 77 Squadron undertook an operational flight to bomb shipbuilding yards at Kiel. The aircraft took off from Topcliffe at 20.13hrs and released their bomb load from 12,000 feet. On the return flight the aircraft developed wireless trouble and then failure. The crew managed to land at Driffield at 03.30hrs but too far down the flarepath and it ran into filled-in bomb craters at the edge of the airfield that caused the aircraft to swing. The aircraft came to rest with the undercarriage collapsed.
