Hampden P2073 at Lindholme airfield.

On 22nd April 1941 this 106 Squadron was to be flown from Lindholme to Coningsby. At 14.52hrs the port engine failed on take off from Lindholme just as the aircraft was about to become airborne, the pilot lost control and a swing developed leading to the undercarriage collapsing. Why this aircraft was at Lindholme is not known. The incident's AM Form 1180 gives the unit as being 50 Squadron with it crossed out and replaced with 106 Squadron, the named pilot was a 106 Squadron pilot. The aircraft's AM Form 78 gives the aircraft as being a 106 Squadron at the time. It also appears to have received a Cat.E Burnt damage assessment that would normally write the aircraft off but the AM 78 then lists it's service history until November 1943 though possibly as an instructional airframe for a period of that time.

Pilot - Sgt John James Field RAF (754644).
