Master N7770 near Driffield.

On 28th March 1941 the trainee pilot of this aircraft was undertaking a basic training exericse, he was practicing night circuits and landings. On one such landing he stalled the aircraft after abandoning one such landing and the aircraft crashed near Highfield Farm, alongside Southburn Lane, Driffield. The resulting crash and the fire killed the pilot. 5 FTS were on detachment to Driffield at the time of this incident.

Master N7770 was built to contract 779602/38 by Phillips & Powys Ltd. at Woodley and was awaiting collection in February 1940. It was taken on charge by 15 FTS in April 1940 which moved in to Middle Wallop that month. On 11th June 1940 it moved with the unit to Brize Norton and in late 1940 it was transferred to 14 FTS at Cranwell. After a short stay with them it moved on to 5 FTS at Ternhill in early 1941. On 28th March 19441 is suffered this accident near Driffield and Cat.E2/FA damage was recorded.
