Whitley N1469 at Linton on Ouse airfield.
On the night of 30th / 31st March 1941 this 58 Squadron aircraft flew an operational flight to bomb Brest. The aircraft took off from Linton on Ouse at 18.50hrs and released it's bombs over the target area from 11,000 feet. Nothing out of the ordinary occurred over France. While returning to or on the approach to land at Linton on Ouse airfield this aircraft suffered an engine failure. The aircraft gradually lost height and while the aircraft was able to reach the airfield at Linton on Ouse the pilot left lowering the undercarriage until the last moment. On touching down at 03.05hrs the undercarriage was not yet locked and then collapsed.
