Whitley N1466 at Linton on Ouse airfield.
Whitley N1466 was used by 58 Squadron to give their pilots training flights including circuits and landings flights and this subjected the aircraft to some heavy landings and general rough treatment. On 1st May 1941 the aircraft was being flown on a night training flight, the nature of the training being undertaken is not known. At 22.50hrs the pilot made a landing at Linton on Ouse airfield with a degree of drift and unfortunately only on the starboard wheel. The stress on the undercarriage caused the leg to collapse.
Pilot - F/Lt Sideny Patrick Daniels RAFVR (81676).
