Blenheim L9417 at Catfoss airfield.

On 16th December 1941 the pilot of this aircraft was landing at Catfoss airfield when it struck a poorly parked cement mixer and was badly damaged.

Blenheim L9417 was built to contract 569202/36 by Rootes Securities Ltd. at Speke and was awaiting collection in March 1940. It was taken on charge by 1 (C)OTU at Silloth shortly after the unit formed on 1st April 1940. On 9th August 1940 the Blenheim part of 1 (C)OTU was detached to Prestwick and on 27th November 1941 all of the Blenheims of 1 (C)OTU transferred to 2 (C)OTU at Catfoss. On 12th January 1941 it was slightly damaged in a ground accident at Catfoss when it was struck by Blenheim L9321. Cat.A/FB damage was the assessment and it was repaired on site. As a result of this mishap on 16th December 194 Cat.E2/FA damage was the assessment and it was written off.
