Blenheim L6677 at Church Fenton airfield.

On 5th April 1941 this 54 Operational Training Unit aircraft was belly-landed in error at Church Fenton at 21.10hrs and having sustained serious damage it was written off as a result.

Blenheim L6677 was built to contract 588371/36 by A.V. Roe & Co. Ltd. at Chadderton and was awaiting collection in February 1939. After acceptance it was flown into MU storage where it remained until being taken on charge by 25 Squadron at Hawkinge on 26th May 1939. On 22nd August 1939 it moved with the unit to Northolt then on 15th September 1939 with the unit to Filton and back to Northolt on 4th Occtober 1939. On 16th January 1940 it moved with the unit to North Weald. The aircraft was a veteran of the Battle of France. On 19th June 1940 it moved with the unit to Martlesham Heath and returned to North Weald with the unit on 1st September 1940. On 8th October 1940 the unit moved to Debden and took the aircraft, then moved to Wittering on 27th November 1940 and again it moved with the unit. On 4th February 1941 it was transferred to 54 OTU at Church Fenton but on 5th April 1941 Cat.E/FA damage was recorded after the landing accident detailed above and it was written off.
