Blenheim L1185 near Church Fenton airfield.
On 8th April 1941 this trainee pilot undertook flying training with 54 Operational Training Unit. During the flight the port engine failed, the pilot attempted to reach Church Fenton airfield but unfortunately undershot the landing at 13.35hrs and crashed into a ploughed field.

Blenheim L1185 was built to contract 527114/36 by The Bristol Aeroplane Company Ltd. at Filton and was awaiting collection in April 1938. It was taken on charge by
104 Squadron at Bassingbourn the following month when that unit began conversion from Hinds to Blenheims. On 18th September 1939 it moved with the unit to Bicester
but on 8th April 1940 the unit disbanded and the aircraft was placed in MU storage where conversion to a MkIf status took place. In August 1940 it was taken on charge
by 600 Squadron at Hornchurch, then moved to Redhill on 12th September 1940 and to Catterick on 12th October 1940. 600 Squadron ceased operating Blenheim MkIf's in
February 1941 after they had completed their conversion to Beaufighters. In February 1941 the aircraft was taken on charge by 54 OTU at Church Fenton but on 8th
April 1941 it sustained Cat.E2/FA damage as a result of the incident near Church Fenton as detailed above.
