Tutor K3396 near Hayton, Pocklington.

On 12th January 1941 this aircraft was en route from West Raynham to Silloth to be placed into storage at Silloth and was under the care of 22 MU at time of the flight, while over Yorkshire a technical problem occurred which resulted in the pilot opting to make a forced landing near Hayton, between Pocklington and Market Weighton. The landing was successful and no further damage was sustained, a team arrived to repair the aircraft and after this was done the then pilot was attempting take off from the field but struck a hedge, crashed and the aircraft overturned.

Tutor K3396 was built to contract 195190/32 by A.V.Roe & Co. Ltd. at Newton Heath. On 2nd June 1934 it was delivered to 1 ASU at Peterborough where it remained in storage until 26th February 1935 when it was taken on charge by 3 FTS at Spitalgate. On 5th April 1938 it transferred to the Station Flight at Aldergrove. On 12th June 1939 it transferred to the Station Flight at Abingdon for use by Oxford University Air Squadron. On 3rd October 1939 it transferred to the Station Flight at Benson but the following day it was taken on charge by 63 Squadron also based at Benson. On 4th December 1939 it transferred to 101 Squadron at West Raynham but the passed to the Station flight also at West Raynham. On 1st March 1940 it passed into the hands of No.2 Group. Target Towing Flight also at West Raynham. On 12th January 1941 it transferred to 22 MU Silloth but the incident at Hayton occurred during the flight. After inspection Cat.E/FA damage was recorded and the aircraft was struck off charge on 21st January 1941.
