Tiger Moth BB800 at Yeadon airfield.
On 20th May 1941 this 20 E.F.T.S. aircraft taxied into Tiger Moth BB801 at Yeadon airfield slightly damaging both aircraft.
Pilot - LAC William Gordon RAF (1055895).
William Gordon completed his training and was posted to 37 Squadron. For service with them he was awarded the DFM, Gazetted on 4th December 1942.
This aircraft was built by The De Havilland Aircraft Co. Ltd. at Hatfield and first registered on the civilian register as G-ADWB to Scottish Aviation Ltd. at
Prestwick on 9th December 1935. It was later operated by Scottish Aviation Ltd. at Prestwick under the guise of 12 E&RFTS from 17th February 1936 until 3rd
September 1939 when the unit was re-designated as 12 EFTS the aircraft was coded "-40". On 12th October 1940 it was impressed into the RAF as BB800 but
remained at 12 EFTS. On 23rd March 1941 it transferred to 20 EFTS based at Yeadon and is believed to have sustained very minor Cat.A/GA damage on 20th May
1941 as stated above. It was almost certainly repaired on site and returned to the unit only to suffer Cat.B/FA damage on 31st January 1941 when it taxied
into snow drift at Yeadon and overturned. After this incident it was dismantled and transported by road to Taylorcraft Ltd. at Rearsby in February 1942 for repair,
on completion of repair it was taken on charge by 6 SFTS at Little Rissington on 7th March 1942, this unit was re-designated as 6(P)AFU on 1st April 1942. On
1st December 1942 it was transferred to 7 EFTS and remained with here with this unit and after it was re-named 7RFS for a further nine years. On 14th November 1951
it was flown into and placed into long term MU storage at Cosford until 2nd September 1952 when it was taken on charge by 2 GU and operated by Airwork Ltd. at
Bournemouth. On 12th March 1953 it was flown to 12 MU at Kirkbride for disposal and put up for sale in June 1953. On 18th November 1953 it was purchased by A.J.
Whittemore trading as Aeradio Ltd. but never registered on the civilian register. It is last recorded at Croydon in 1956 where the aircraft was broken up and scrapped.
