Unidentified Whitley near Dishforth.
On 30th November 1941 this unidentified aircraft crashed near the Dishforth to Boroughbridge road at 20.47hrs with traffic between Thirsk and Boroughbridge
having to be diverted for some hours. The crew escaped injury. The identity of the aircraft is not yet known. It probably ran off the airfield and onto the road
next to the airfield site. A map reference located in a police report transcript gives the location as being just south of Dishforth village rather but the
location given in the police report states it was 400 yards south of the aerodrome where as this map reference plots to an area north of the aerodrome. The
descriptive location is probably correct and there was an error in transcribing the police map reference when this was copy was made in the 1960s.
