Spitfire X4624 at Catterick airfield.
On 15th November 1940 Spitfire X4624 of 54 Squadron crashed during take off from Catterick and sustained some damage.

Spitfire X4624 was built to contract 19713/39 by Vickers Armstrong's (Supermarine) Ltd, at Woolston and was first test flown on 18th October 1940, it was
flown to 9 MU at Cosford on 21st October 1940 and later taken on charge by 54 Squadron at Catterick on 1st November 1940. It sustained Cat.R/FA damage as
a result of the incident at Catterick on 15th November 1940 as stated above. From here it was dismantled and transported to General Aircraft Ltd,
at Hanworth on 19th November 1940 for repair. On 14th January 1941 it was flown to 39 MU at Colerne for storage. On 21st May 1941 it was taken on charge
by 152 Squadron at Portreath but this allocation changed on the same day to Fairey Aviation Ltd, at Stockport. On 20th November 1941 it was taken on
charge by 52 OTU at Aston Down. On 8th April 1942 it was hit by Spitfire X4929 on the perimeter track at Aston Down and Cat.B/GA damage was sustained.
On 15th April 1942 it was dismantled and transported to 1 CRU at Cowley for repair and on 29th May 1942 it was awaiting collection. It was later
flown to 8 MU at Little Rissington for storage and on 6th July 1942 it was allocated for transfer to SLG (Satellite Landing Ground - MU overflow storage centres).
On 7th October 1942 it was flown to 3 SLG at Middle Farm for long term storage. On 17th June 1943 it was taken on charge by 53 OTU at Kirton in Lindsey. On 26th
February 1944 it was reported as damaged Cat.A(c)/FA but no details are known for the incident. It was repaired on site with the repair completed by 3rd March
1944. On 30th March 1944 it was returned to 53 OTU at Kirton in Lindsey. On 4th August 1944 it was flown into long term storage at 39 MU at Colerne and on 6th
November 1944 declared a non-effective aircraft. It was lastly struck off charge on 8th March 1945 and probably scrapped.
