Magister T9676 near Thorne, Doncaster.
On 19th September 1940 50 Squadron's training aircraft, Magister T9676, was being flown on a familiarisation flight when the aircraft entered a spin from which the pilot
could not regain control. The aircraft crashed near Thorne and he was sadly killed. He had only just joined the squadron on 15th September 1940 and was probably getting to
know the local area. The passenger named below was almost certainly in the same aircraft and he died of his injuries later the same day.

Passenger - LAC Philip Raymond Currie RAF (570163), died of injuries on 19th September 1940. Aged 21. Buried Blaydon Cemetery, Durham.

Magister T9676 was built to contract B53337/39 by Philips & Powys Ltd. at Woodley, it was awaiting collection in May 1940 and was delivered to 50 Squadron at Waddington
soon after. On 10th July 1940 it moved with this unit to Lindholme and on 19th September 1940 it suffered this crash with Cat.W/FA damage being recorded.
