Whitley T4145 near Dishforth airfield.
At 15.10hrs on 19th November 1940 this 51 Squadron Whitley overshot on landing at Dishforth airfield on return from a non-operational flying test. It was landing in no wind conditions and with a full bomb load. The aircraft came to a halt off in the airfield boundary hedge and some 200 yards south of the Windsor Castle Inn near the A1 road. A police record for the incident sourced gives the time as being 15.25hrs (probably when they were called out) and that the aircraft suffered from having the undercarriage collapse where-as the AM Form 1180 has the word "undercarriage collapsed" crossed out. The unit records state it suffered airscrew and undercarriage damage.
Pilot - Sgt Douglas L Boyer RAFVR (748444).
