Anson R9661 at Catterick airfield.

On 17th September 1940 this aircraft was being flown to Catterick by a pilot of No.4 Ferry Pilot Pool with the intention of being used to pick up another pilot who was stranded there. On the approach to land at Catterick, the pilot forgot to lower the undercarriage. A warning horn failed to sound because the battery that powered it had been allowed to run down owing to the pitot head heater being left switched on. The pilot then went on to make a belly landing at Catterick and some damage resulted.
