Lysander R9028 forced landed near Thirsk. No damage.
During the morning of 8th December 1940 the crew of this 4 Squadron aircraft were undertaking what was known as a sector patrol in "Recce Area A" and took off from Clifton at 08.35hrs. A sector patrol was to fly up an area of the North-East Coast of England and check for enemy activity. Ten minutes into the flight the aircraft had reached the Thirsk area when it was force landed. I have not yet located any details of why the forced landing was made but no damage resulted. At 12.10hrs another pilot, F/Lt William Edward Malins DFC RAF (40838) took off from the field from which the landing was made and flew it back to York. The crew listed below are the crew who made the landing.
Pilot - P/O Dean.
Air Gunner - Sgt Fisher.
