Hurricane P3456 at Church Fenton airfield.
On 4th September 1940 this 73 Squadron aircraft hit an obstruction on landing at Church Fenton airfield and tipped on to its nose. The following day this pilot and other members of the squadron left for Debden. hours later the pilot was in Billericay Hospital after baling out of an aircraft during combat with enemy aircraft.

Robert Rutter is regarded as a Battle of Britain pilot and one of "The Few". The day after this incident at Church Fenton he was shot down by an enemy aircraft. He recovered and was awarded the DFC in 1944. He died in 1998.
