Hurricane N2360, possibly at Church Fenton airfield.

On 21st June 1940 this aircraft was written off while the Unit was based at Church Fenton and although there is a suggestion that a flying accident may have been involved no evidence has yet been found for this occurring while it was based in Yorkshire. It could well be that this aircraft was left in France as damaged when 87 Squadron retreated back to the UK and the paperwork was only completed at a later date when the unit was in position in Yorkshire. I include it here to try and clarify this and would welcome further information.

Pilot - Name unknown.

Hurricane N2360 was built to contract 751458/38 by Hawker Aircraft Ltd. at Kingston/Brooklands and was awaiting collection on 26th October 1939. It was delivered to 43 Squadron at Tangmere in November 1939 and moved with this unit to Acklington on 18th November 1939 and to Wick on 26th February 1940. On paper it was transferred to 87 Squadron at Church Fenton on 26th May 1940 who were based at Church Fenton on that date but if this date is incorrectly given in more modern published sources it may have passed to 87 Squadron before they were infact in Yorkshire at all. It was struck off charge on 21st June 1940 but no further details are known.
