Blenheim L8723 near Catterick.

On 15th December 1940 this 600 squadron aircraft is believed to have been badly damaged in a mishap near Catterick. I had previously linked it to a Sgt Albertini but having viewed his AM1180 for his mishap on the same date that involved a different 600 Squadron aircraft force landing at Belmont, Durham on a flight from Drem to Catterick at 16.00hrs. More information is required.

Pilot - Name unknown.

Blenheim L8723 was built to contract 551920/37 by Rootes Securities Ltd. at Speke and was awaiting collection in August 1939, it was placed into MU storage for a few months before being taken on charge by 229 Squadron at Digby when the unit re-formed after a twenty year period of absence from the RAF in November 1939. It later transferred to 219 Squadron at Catterick in 1940 but the precise date is not known. On 12th October 1940 219 Squadron moved to Redhill being replaced the same day by 600 Squadron from Redhill and this aircraft was left behind at Catterick and was taken on charge by 600 Squadron. The aircraft was badly damaged in the incident on 15th December 1940 and Cat.W/FA damage was recorded and it was struck off charge two days later.
