Botha L6170 was built to contract 563935/36 by the Blackburn Aeroplane Co. Ltd. at Brough and was initially received by 12 MU on 3rd June 1940. It was then taken on charge by 608 Squadron on 5th July 1940. on 19th September 1940 it was damaged at Thornaby that saw a Cat.R/FA damage assessment. It was dismantled and transported to Scottish Aviation Ltd. at Prestwick for repair, then sent to Blackburn's at Brough. On 6th April 1941 it passed to 48 MU and was then taken on charge by No.4 B.G.S. at West Freugh on 11th JMay 1941. On 14th June 1941 this unit was re-designated No.4 A.O.S. and still based at West Freugh. It went back to Blackburn's on 1st May 1942 but was returned to No.4 AOS on 10th July 1942. It was then transferred to No.3 A.G.S. at Castle Kennedy on 26th July 1942 soon after the unit reformed. On 7th February 1943 it was on charge by No.8 AGS at Evanton but struck off charge on 10th October 1943.
