Blenheim L1206 at Leconfield airfield.
On 17th December 1939 this 234 Squadron aircraft damaged it's undercarriage on take-off from Leconfield. On the return to the airfield the pilot to
belly-landed and the aircraft was badly damaged.
Pilot - P/O Geoffrey Kenneth Gout RAF (41918), of Sevenoaks, Kent.
Geoffrey Gout was granted a commission in the RAF in February 1939 and was posted to 234 Squadron in October 1939 following its formation.
He was killed on 25th July 1940 when 234 Squadron Spitfire P9493 crashed in Cornwall. He is buried at St.Eval Churchyard, Cornwall. He was twenty four years old.
Blenheim L1206 was built to contract 527114/36 by Bristol Aeroplane Company Ltd at Filton, Bristol and was awaiting collection by the RAF in May 1938. It was issued to 114 Squadron
at Wyton on an unknown date in 1938. It then passed to MU storage in May 1939 when 114 Squadron converted to Mk.IV Blenheims. It was then issued to 234
Squadron at Leconfield in November 1939 when the unit received it's first aircraft after reforming on 20th October 1939. Following the accident detailed above Cat.W/FA damage was recorded and
after assessment it was converted to instructional airframe 2974M.
