Unidentified Spitfire (probably) at Church Fenton airfield.
On 12th December 1939 a 616 Squadron Spitfire tipped on to its nose on landing when it over-ran into slightly boggy ground. On this date Church Fenton airfield ran an interception exercise which involved 616 Squadron, who were based at Leconfield at the time. Mention of the incident was located in the No.13 Group record book and references Church Fenton but does not specifically state it occurred there.
