Wellesley L2679 at Driffield aerodrome.
On 15th September 1938 Wellesley K8525 of 77 Squadron overshot when making a night landing at Driffield aerodrome and collided with another 77 Squadron aeroplane, Wellesley L2679, that was parked outside Hanger No.1. Both aeroplanes sustained minor damage.
Wellesley L2679 was built to contract 435442/35 by Vickers Ltd. at Weybridge and upon completion in March 1938 was initially retained by Vickers Ltd. It then appears to have gone to R.A.E. Farnborough before being taken on charge by 77 Squadron at Driffield. As a result of the collision there on 15th September 1938 Cat.M/FA damage was the damage assessmnt and it was repaired on site. Later, on an unknown date, probably after November 1938, it was shipped to the Middle East. It served with 47 Squadron at Khartoum and later the Conversion Flight at Khartoum. It was eventually struck off charge on 31st March 1943.
