Hawker Fury K8230 at Catfoss aerodrome.

On 11th May 1938 this Fury bounced on take off from Catfoss aerodrome causing the undercarriage to collapse and it came to rest upside down. The aeroplane was on the books with No.7 Flying Training School based at Peterborough and why it was at Catfoss is unclear, it may have been used there on a gunnery and bombing training camp or had landed there on route to or from another destination. The damage was repaired on site.

Fury K8230 was built to contract 419059/35 by General Aircraft Ltd. at Hanworth and was delivered as new to No.10 FTS at Ternhill on 1st September 1936. On 30th October 1936 it was transferred to No.7 F.T.S. at Peterborough. On 11th May 1938 it sustained repairable Cat.M/FA as a result of the mishap at Catfoss. It was repaired on site and was then returned to the unit. On 10th February 1939 it bounced on landing at Peterborough and overturned causing Cat.M/FA damage though may not have been repaired. On 17th January 1940 it was converted to Ground Instructional Airframe 1716M and after this nothing more is known.
